HOAs and Satellite Dishes

Homeowners Associations generally like a clean look throughout the community. One of the items that may cause some contention are satellite dishes and the positioning of them. They typically need to be pointed south, and not be blocked by houses, buildings and trees. Quite often a satellite dish gets installed on the roof of a home, or elsewhere for condos, apartments and other multi-family homes.

Because satellite dishes broadcast signals, the Federal Communications Commission was given the authority to set regulations pertaining to HOAs and the use of a satellite dish.

  1. 47 CFR § 1.4000 - Restrictions impairing reception of television broadcast signals, direct broadcast satellite services or multichannel multipoint distribution services.
  2. RESOLVING SATELLITE DISH LOCATION DISPUTES: SASTIN 2, LLC V HEMINGWAY ASSOCIATION, INC
